Good morning, Court Theorists! ☕️☀️
Today’s tennis mood: Trying to focus on just the tennis in Paris and bracing for a day of Turin-deciding matches.
Let’s tennis!

🎾 On tap: We’re still working through first-round matches across the board, with just a handful of second-round matches in the mix. There are a few potential ATP Tour Finals knockout scenarios in Paris today for Novak Djokovic, Taylor Fritz, Brandon Nakashima, and Tommy Paul, so we’ll keep an eye on those.
🎾 Come on, Paris: The excitement of what the Paris Masters represents — the final 1000 tournament where the ATP Tour Finals field is typically determined — is undermined by a humdrum atmosphere. Not everything needs to be a massive show, but the entire aesthetic of this tournament feels so muted. The colors are muddy. The court surroundings are lacking. This thing needs a glow-up. And, as Court Theory reader William Bender points out, the main camera angle makes it “like watching a game of Pong.” How would you spruce up this tournament? Hit reply and let me know!
🎾 One to watch: Casper Ruud vs. Rafael Jodar (2nd round - ATP 1000 - Paris): It’s a rematch! Just a couple of weeks ago, these two put on a battle in Shanghai. And we here at Court Theory HQ would like to see that level of tennis again.
The record: Rafael Jodar leads the head-to-head record over Casper Ruud 1-0.
On the line: Neither player has ranking points to defend. Ruud would like to finish the year strong after an erratic 2026. But it’s Jodar who has the most on the line today because he’s on the cusp of qualifying for the ATP Tour Finals in his first year on tour.

🎾 🏆 🎤 YOUR CALL
And that’s game.
