Good morning, Court Theorists! ☕️🥐
Today’s tennis mood: Optimistic but also a bit disappointed this is how it ends.
Let’s tennis!

🎾 Takeaways: Rafa Jodar may have arrived at Roland-Garros as a seed, but for the 19-year-old who was in just his second major, this tournament was a learning experience. The biggest one may have been on Tuesday, as he lost to Alexander Zverev.
What he said: “All these matches helped me to realize that if you want to compete against the best players in the world, you have to keep your level all the time the same,” Jodar said in his post-match press conference. “You cannot have a lot of downs during the matches, especially when you are playing a five-set match.” He added: “What I learned about me is that I can compete against anyone, but I still have to improve a lot of things, and these matches will help me to improve those things. That's what I learned.”
🎾 One dominant performance: That belongs to Jakub Mensik, who defeated an extremely in-form Joao Fonseca in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, 7-6. It’s notable after Mensik played long battles during the week one heat wave in Paris, one of which required a medical team to peel him off the court after it was over.
What he said: “The last 20, 30 minutes of the match, it was just really insane the level from both of us and actually a lot of, I would say, key moments at the time,” Mensik said after the match. “Even after those match points when I didn't manage to take them, I'm happy that I stayed mentally focused and calm and managed to level up my game in the tiebreak.”
And what he said: “I did my best today. I think I put all I had on court, but yeah, unfortunately, it was Jakub's day. He played good tennis. I wish him good luck,” said Fonseca. “The way he deals with the important points is also really impressive. I think he controlled most of the part of the match, serving pretty well and doing the entrance with the return pretty well.”
Next: With two days off, Mensik will face Alexander Zverev in the semifinals on Friday.
🎾 One to watch: Flavio Cobolli vs. Felix Auger-Aliassime (Quarterfinals - Roland-Garros): Watch this one for some big ball-striking from both players
The record: Flavio Cobolli leads the head-to-head record over Felix Auger-Aliassime 2-0. However, both wins were in 2024 and on hard courts.
On the line: For both players, this match is about a chance at a major in what’s become the 2026 Roland-Garros lottery after injury, upsets, and weather claimed the top contenders.
