Good morning, Court Theorists! ☕️☀️
Today’s tennis mood: Hoping the WTA Tour Finals drama shifts to the court soon and sitting with high interest in how the ATP Tour Finals might get shaped today.
Let’s tennis!

🎾 On tap: It’s quarterfinals and semifinals day across Chennai, Hong Kong, and Paris, and there are plenty of great match-ups on the docket. In particular, we’ve got a couple of matches that could decide who gets into Turin and who does not (lookin’ at you Tommy Paul and Taylor Fritz). In action today: Alex Eala, Robin Montgomery, Janice Tjen, Carlos Alcaraz, Taylor Fritz, Tommy Paul, Casper Ruud, and Ben Shelton, among others. Check out the rundown below.
🎾 Hot mic update: The WTA has taken responsibility for a pair of incidents in which players and coaches were caught on a hot mic on Wednesday making comments they didn’t know were being picked up.
What they said: Per The Athletic, the organization issued a statement saying that it “takes full responsibility for failing to inform our players and their teams that microphones, in place to give fans a livestream of the players’ practice, were active on the courts” at Indian Wells. They added: “We sincerely apologize for failing to meet our responsibility to ensure players and coaches were properly informed.”
Correction!: The WTA has since removed all practice videos filmed before Thursday from its YouTube page. Future practice sessions were still scheduled to be livestreamed on WTA’s YouTube page, but without audio.
🎾 One to watch: Taylor Fritz vs. Carlos Alcaraz (Quarterfinals - ATP 1000 - Paris): Watch this one for the competitive drama to see if Fritz qualifies for the ATP Tour Finals or if he packs his bags for Stockholm.
The record: Carlos Alcaraz leads the head-to-head record over Taylor Fritz 6-1. That sole Fritz win came at Laver Cup in 2025.
On the line: Alcaraz is continuing to build confidence after losing much of 2025 to injury. The more wins, the better. For Fritz, this match determines whether or not he makes it into Turin.

🎾 🏆 🎤 YOUR CALL
(Yesterday’s poll results: 84% of you called for Arthur Fils to defeat Taylor Fritz. Fritz won 6-3, 6-4.)
And that’s game.
