Good morning emphatically not from Tennis Paradise, Court Theorists! ☕️🥴🎾
Today’s tennis mood: Readjusting to reality + ready for more!
Yesterday was a travel day, and I’m back on the East Coast where life isn’t bad — but it sure isn’t Tennis Paradise, either. But that’s okay, there are too many tasty matches today to dwell on that.
Let’s tennis!

🎾 It’s Quarterfinals Day!: I don’t know how we got here already, but it’s down to the Final 8 in each draw (except for women’s doubles, which is in the semifinal round today). From beginning to end today, the match-ups are stellar on each court. Take a day off and watch them all! You can have a Court Theory permission slip, if needed.
🎾 Instant classic: That accolade goes to Jack Draper’s three-set win over Novak Djokovic, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6. It was a scrappy battle for the Brit, who also played plenty of power tennis, as well. By the time it was over, he hit 39 winners and 13 aces on one of the best defensive players and returners of all time. And do you know how hard it is to topple Djokovic after he wins the first set?!? 🤯
What he said: “It was a crazy match,” Draper said after the match. “I think both of us gave it our all. I’m just overwhelmed to obviously beat Novak, someone I have watched and admired and idolized since I was a kid … just very grateful to be in this situation and go again tomorrow.”
And what he said: “[I have] a bitter feeling right now, losing a match like this,” Djokovic said after the match. He added: “I lost to a great player, and it was really such an even match throughout the entire two-and-a-half hours. But I am just a bit disappointed.”
Next: Draper faces Daniil Medvedev in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
🎾 One to watch: Learner Tien vs. Jannik Sinner (Quarterfinals - ATP 1000 - Indian Wells): With all the incredible matches, it was a tough call, but we here at Court Theory HQ ultimately settled on this one because of some unique factors. With Learner Tien playing his home tournament, he’ll have that extra support that comes with it. Add on top of that the rising temperature to the mid-90s, which is not exactly Sinner’s favorite set of conditions, especially as Tien looks to extend rallies and test Sinner’s fitness.
Who wins? It’s probably still Sinner. But it’s not the clear, cut call it might be under different circumstances.
The record: Jannik Sinner leads the head-to-head record over Learner Tien, 1-0, after their sole meeting in Beijing last year.
On the line: There’s little doubt that Tien wants to win before a home crowd while also making inroads on players at the very top of the game. Meanwhile, Sinner absolutely does not want an early exit for the third time in his three tournaments of 2026.
