In Washington, Elina Svitolina is certainly looking forward to a rematch against Alex Eala, who defeated her on the grass this spring.

Lefty Ben Shelton is set to face his third left-hander in a row (that must be some kind of record) as he takes on Alejandro Tabilo in Washington.

Also in Washington, rapidly rising Rafael Jodar will face Lorenzo Musetti, who is playing his first tournament since May. Don’t be surprised if Jodar takes this one (and maybe the whole tournament?).

In Memphis, three American women — Katie Volynets, Peyton Stearns, and Caty McNally — are in the quarterfinals. Only two seeds are left: McNally and Stearns.

In Los Cabos, there will be a surprise finalist in either Arthur Gea or Coleman Wong. And that person will face one of the only two seeds left, Cameron Norrie or Denis Shapovalov.

The record: Alex Michelsen leads the head-to-head record over Taylor Fritz 2-0.

On the line: After lukewarm clay and grass seasons, Michelsen is in the middle of rebuilding his confidence on his favorite surface leading up to the U.S. Open. A win against a top 10 opponent would help tremendously. Meanwhile, Fritz is rebuilding confidence in his body after a tough year on the knee. Let’s see how that holds up as Michelsen is surely going to grind from the baseline and press when the opportunity arises.
