🎾 Yesterday’s match: Belgium defeated France in the first quarterfinal tie on Tuesday. In the first match, Raphael Collignon defeated Corentin Moutet 2-6, 7-5, 7-5 to give Belgium a 1-0 lead. Then, Zizou Bergs defeated Arthur Rinderknech 6-3, 7-6, making the doubles unnecessary to move into the next round.
Next: Belgium faces the winner of Italy vs. Austria in the semifinals.
🎾 To the International Tennis Hall of Fame!: That honor belongs to Roger Federer, who (unsurprisingly) earned it on his first nomination. Perhaps more surprisingly, he was the only player who received enough support in the player category to be inducted (sorry, Juan Martin del Potro and Svetlana Kuznetsova 😬). Federer will be joined by Mary Carillo, who was elected in the contributor category.
What he said: “I’ve always valued the history of tennis and the example set by those who came before me,” Federer said. “To be recognized in this way by the sport and by my peers is deeply humbling.”
And what she said: “I’ve been privileged to spend my career sharing the stories of this magnificent game,” Carillo said, “and if I’ve opened any doors along the way, it will make this day in August even more meaningful.”
