Good morning, Court Theorists! ☕️☀️
Today’s tennis mood: Bracing for nonsense plus a bit of intrigue.
Let’s tennis!

🎾 The day it is: We here at Court Theory HQ have too much respect for your intelligence to try some tired April Fool’s Day pranks on you. There will be no “Serena’s coming back!” (Spoiler alert: she is!) No “Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert are the new coaches on Team Alcaraz!” And certainly no “Elon Musk just bought the U.S. Open, and it will be played on the moon!” We will, however, point to a wholesome April Fool’s Day stunt Babolat played on an innocent Carlos Alcaraz a few years ago. You’ll find that below.
🎾 Emphatically not a joke: Camila Giorgi, the former top 30 player and Wimbledon quarterfinalist, who abruptly left pro tennis in 2024 under a cloud of suspicious behavior and accusations, announced on Tuesday that she has launched her own tennis camp in Mallorca. If you have followed Giorgi’s career, you may notice a hint of irony. During her playing career, Giorgi and her father, Sergio, had been accused by multiple academies of racking up bills for training and accommodation and then skipping town before finding another unsuspecting victim. But for Giorgi’s camps, payment is due upfront.
🎾 One to watch: Iva Jovic vs. Alycia Parks (2nd round - ATP 500 - Charleston): Watch this one to catch Parks in the middle of a recent upswing versus Jovic, who is finding her feet on clay. This will be some power hitting from both ends of the court, but expect Jovic to have a higher shot tolerance. The thing is, with Parks, there are some days her opponents just don’t get a racket on the ball to hang in the rallies.
The record: Iva Jovic leads the head-to-head record over Alycia Parks 1-0. The two faced each other exactly one year ago this week, but on the red clay of Bogota.
On the line: Neither player has to worry about defending ranking points this week. For Parks, this match is about trying to gain some kind of momentum. Meanwhile, as a top-20 player, Jovic needs as many matches on clay leading up to Roland-Garros as possible. A first-match exit is not on her agenda.
