Semi #1: Aryna Sabalenka defeated Jessica Pegula 7-5, 6-2. For nearly all of the first set, both players dominated on their serves. Then, at 5-all, Pegula blinked. And from that point on, Sabalenka went into overdrive and took over.

What she said: “I think that’s definitely…probably the best match she’s played this year,” Pegula said in post-match press. “I’m honestly not that upset because I don’t really think there was much I could have done today.”

Semi #2: Elena Rybakina defeated Coco Gauff 3-6, 6-4, 6-4. Rybakina shook off any nerves she may have had in the first set and came back punching harder in the second. But, for Gauff, it marks a year since she committed to changing her serve and her forehand. And she had a moment to process and reflect.

What she said: “I think I played almost every match on my terms. I think the worst match for me was maybe the quarterfinal, where I maybe fell back into some old habits, but in 24 hours I was able to switch that,” Gauff said during press. “I’m just trying to think of how much work I put into the year, how far I’ve come, and now I’m just excited to keep putting the work in for another year, another two years, and see where I’m at at 24, 25 and where my game can take me.”
