Three Points
🎾 Finally launched: Stockton Street, the podcast exclusively on X by Venus and Serena Williams, has launched. The first episode, which was recorded on Arthur Ashe Stadium, gets into some subjects that just weren’t on the table before. “As close as we are, we had to keep so many things distant because of our jobs,” Serena told The Hollywood Reporter. “As much as she’s my sister, she’s also my opponent, and you can’t be as open as you want to be.”
- Here’s a teaser if I’ve ever heard one: “I think a lot of people have wondered, and I talk about this in the first episode, ‘Do we really actually like each other, because we have to play each other? Do you hate each other? Do you talk to each other?’” added Venus. “There’s so much in our relationship that we get to share that we never have before. There’s a lot to unpack.”
🎾 For the win: The United States has advanced to the semifinals of the Billie Jean King Cup after defeating Kazakhstan, 2-1. It was a narrow escape after Emma Navarro saved two match points to defeat Yulia Putintseva 7-5, 6-2, 7-6 in the first singles match of the tie. Jessica Pegula lost somewhat convincingly to Elena Rybakina 6-4, 6-1, which pushed it to the deciding doubles match. The team of Pegula and Taylor Townsend got the job done, 6-2, 7-6.
- Next: The U.S. faces the winner of Japan vs. Great Britain.
🎾 The ATP’s new CEO: The ATP announced on Wednesday that Eno Polo has become the organization’s new CEO, effective immediately. He relieves ATP Chairman Andrea Gaudenzi, who has been doing double duty since Massimo Calvelli stepped down from the CEO role in June. Polo, a former pro player representing Kenya, has been on the ATP’s Board of Directors since 2021 as a player representative.
- What he said: “Eno is a dynamic and accomplished leader who understands both the commercial landscape and the intricacies of professional tennis,” said Gaudenzi. “His tenure on the ATP Board has given him direct insight into the sport’s challenges and opportunities. This is an exciting time for tennis, with significant opportunities ahead amid a changing landscape. We are delighted to welcome Eno as CEO as we continue to advance the sport through our OneVision strategy.”
- And what he said: “Tennis is at a transformative moment as a global sport and business. The opportunity that lies ahead is immense,” said Polo. “Having had the privilege of working closely with players and tournaments, I know the power of collaboration. It’s an honor to step into this role as ATP CEO and help lead the organization in its next phase of growth.”
