Three Points

🎾 New coach same as the old coach: Stefanos Tsitsipas has split with Goran Ivanisevic and has (you guessed it!) returned to working with his father. The two have parted ways amicably, The Athletic reports. But did they? It’s a little difficult to believe everything was copacetic after what Ivanisevic said in the media following Tsitsipas early loss at Wimbledon.

  • What they said: “Working with Goran Ivanisevic was a brief but intense experience and a truly valuable chapter in my journey,” Tsitsipas said.
  • And what he said: “We had a nice conversation yesterday. Nothing bad. He is going back to his father, back to his roots,” Ivanisevic said. “He had his best results with his father, his father knows him the best so I agree that is the right decision. I hope he gets back where he belongs and wish him all the best for the future.”
  • Yes, but: Come on. We all knew this was coming, right?
  • Recently: Ivanisevic blasted Tsitsipas in an interview, saying there just aren’t things he can fix for his charge, saying: “The desire is there, but he does nothing to improve things. It’s all ‘I want it, I want it’ but I don’t see any progress,” Ivanisevic said. “He has to find a solution for his back issue. I was shocked. I’ve never seen such a poorly prepared player in my life!”

🎾 Venus snags another: While Venus Williams was on the court with Hailey Baptiste for their second-round doubles match against Townsend and Zhang, the Cincinnati Open announced the 45-year-old had received a wild card into the tournament.

  • Intriguing: Barring any injury, it seems all but guaranteed that Venus will receive a wild card into this year’s U.S. Open. The last time she played was in 2023.

🎾 Stat of the day: On Wednesday, it took just 90 minutes for young American Learner Tien to take down fifth-seeded Andrey Rublev on the hard courts of Washington, saying he just wanted to “play aggressive and keep cool in key moments.” The 6-2, 7-6 win also contributed to this mind-blowing stat: Learner Tien is 4-1 against top 10 opponents in 2025. Not bad for the teen who is ranked outside the top 50. 🤯
