On tap today: The PTPA amends its lawsuit against “the cartel,” an unexpected emotional win for Emma Raducanu, Bernard Tomic gambles and wins, Dan Evans takes on Tommy Paul, plus more tennis news today.

Let’s tennis!

Three Points

🎾 Rethinking: The Professional Tennis Players Association has amended its antitrust lawsuit against the governing bodies of tennis. Per The Athletic, the PTPA removed the International Tennis Federation and the International Tennis Integrity Agency from the filing in New York City, leaving the ATP and the WTA as the two defendants in the lawsuit. And public criticisms about tour scheduling by players such as Coco Gauff and Carlos Alcaraz that were in the original complaint were removed after the two players said they were unaware of the lawsuit and did not support it.

  • Noteworthy: None of the sport’s top stars are among the 14 named plaintiffs in the case, including Novak Djokovic, who co-founded the PTPA.
  • What he said: “To be quite frank with you, there are things that I agree with in the lawsuit and there are also things that I don’t agree with,” Djokovic said in March, shortly after the lawsuit was filed. “I found that maybe some wording was quite strong in there.”

🎾 The support she needed: After her three-set win over Ann Li, Emma Raducanu was perhaps a bit more emotional than you might expect from a first-round win. But it wasn’t from the win. “I received some pretty bad news, so I would like to keep it personal, but it was difficult and very emotional at the end, and probably just a release of different emotions,” she said after the match.

  • A helping hand: “It’s nice whenever the schedule works,” Raducanu said when asked about the presence of the British number five, Fran Jones. “We like to be there for each other, and today, obviously she’s a close friend of mine, so she knew what was going on behind the scenes, and to have her support there on a day like today means so much to me.”

🎾 Theres a first (in four years) for everything: Bernard Tomic logged his first tour-level win in more than four years on Tuesday. The 32-year-old Australian moved past countryman Rinky Hijikata for a first-round win in Mallorca.

  • Noteworthy: Tomic made a tough call in entering Mallorca. It was either the guaranteed entry into the qualifying there or take a chance on getting into the qualifying at Wimbledon, where he was on the bubble of gaining entry.
  • Next: Tomic faces Roberto Bautista Agut on Wednesday. Tomic won their only grass meeting at Wimbledon, but that was nearly a decade ago.
