👋 Welcome back to The Daily Theory, our morning rundown to help you stay on top of your favorite sport. I’m Allen McDuffee, your guide to all things tennis.
Let’s tennis!

Three Points
🎾 Back in the box: As we here at Court Theory HQ predicted last week, Tom Hill is back on the Maria Sakkari team — at least for the remainder of the clay season. Seemingly out of nowhere, Hill announced he ended his coaching relationship with Peyton Stearns after a year, leaving the up-and-coming American to find a new coach mid-season. At the time, Hill made no announcement about his next move, leaving us to wonder whether or not he would reunite with Sakkari. And here we are.
🎾 Playing on: Hungary’s Fabian Marozsan pulled off a major upset in Munich on Thursday, taking out fourth-seeded Ugo Humbert in straight sets. But the second most noteworthy moment of the match came when it ended, but Marozsan was too focused to realize it. It took him a minute, but he eventually realized he was due at the net for a handshake with his opponent. Up next: Zizou Bergs in the quarterfinals.
🎾 Correction: With too many tournaments on the brain, yesterday’s issue of The Daily Theory incorrectly referred to Diego Dedura-Palomero as the young Spaniard playing in Barcelona. He is a young German who was playing in Munich.
And, that’s game.

What They Said
I just have to do what I have to do: Stay aggressive and playing my game. I’m always ready for a battle against great players.

🔥 Alexander Zverev vs. Tallon Griekspoor (Quarterfinals ATP 500 - Munich): This is a serious rematch at a critical moment for Zverev. At Indian Wells last month, Griekspoor pulled off the upset against Zverev, the tournament’s top seed. Expect Griekspoor to test the nerves of Zverev — a strategy that the German’s opponents have used to great success since he badly lost in the final of the Australian Open. But Griekspoor has some nerve issues of his own from time to time, which tend to show up in his serve before anywhere else. Who wins this one? Magic 8 Ball says: “Reply hazy, try again.”
- The record: Alexander Zverev leads the head-to-head record over Tallon Griekspoor 6-2. Griekspoor won their most recent meeting in three close sets at Indian Wells.
- On the line: Zverev is desperate to get beyond the quarterfinals after months of early round losses. Add on top of that the extra pressure he’s facing by playing before a home crowd. Meanwhile, another win under Griekspoor’s belt could bump him up in the rankings in seeding territory for Roland-Garros.
